Mamiao Ancient Town

Mabian River is a market town with steep terrain, which stands on the mountain. It got its name because before liberation, most of the surrounding transportation was horse caravans. Before liberation, it was the only way to transport coal from Bajiaogou Valley. Today, most of the buildings near the cliff of the tourist wharf in the middle of the Alsophila Lake are stilted buildings. The giant umbrella stretched by the big banyan tree and the ferries going to and from the opposite bank have become flowing landscapes, which are well-known scenic spots for painters to draw from life. Earthen blockhouses were built on both sides of the Mamiao, which was a fortification against bandits in Jiayang Coal Mine before liberation.
